Typical electrical and wiring problems of BMW M3 E36

1. Central lock and ZKE module

The comfort control unit (ZKE) often fails.

Problems: doors do not open, alarm system failure, power windows malfunction.

2. Broken wiring in the door harness

Due to age, the insulation becomes hard, the wires break.

Symptoms: speakers, power windows, central lock in one door do not work.

3. Oxidation and corrosion of contacts

Connectors in the engine compartment, trunk and doors are susceptible.

Leads to interruptions in the operation of headlights, sensors and power supply.

4. Problems with the fuse box and relays

Loose contacts or burnt-out relays.

Symptoms: failure of the fuel pump, fans, headlights or heater.

5. Sensor malfunctions

The ABS, crankshaft position and temperature sensors often fail.

Reason: aging wiring, moisture, insulation damage.

6. Lighting

Weak grounds and "burning" of headlight contacts.

Possible interruptions in the operation of the rear lights and instrument lighting.

7. Aging wiring under the hood

High temperature destroys the insulation.

This can cause short circuits, engine failures.

8. Problems with the generator and ground wires

Weak contact or corrosion of the "ground" → poor start, blinking instrument panel, discharged battery.
